29. mars kl. 16.00-17.30 – Workshop 1 – Wonderful Waltz
Wonderful Waltz – Upp á næsta stig
Námskeiðið hentar fyrir dansara sem vilja ná færni sinni upp á næsta stig, auka skilning á tónlistinni og þeim möguleikum sem valsinn býður upp á. Markmið námskeiðsins er ná enn meira flæði og mýkt, bæði í hægum og hröðum skrefum. Gert er ráð fyrir að þátttakendur hafi fengið kennslu í vals og þekki vel muninn á tango, vals og milonga.
Við kennum nokkur dæmi um spennandi skrefa samsetningar í mismunandi tempói, leggjum áherslu á góða samhæfingu parsins og að bæði séu virk í túlkun tónlistarinnar.
Wonderful Waltz – Soar to the Next Level
This workshop is designed for dancers who want to take their skills to the next level, deepen their understanding of the music, and explore the possibilities offered by the waltz. The goal is to achieve even greater fluidity and softness, both in slow and fast steps. Participants are expected to have prior instruction in waltz and a solid understanding of the differences between tango, waltz, and milonga.
We will teach a few examples of step combinations in different tempo variations, with a focus on good connection in the couple and ensuring that both dancers are actively engaged in interpreting the music.
12. apríl kl. 16.00-17.30 – Workshop 2 – Volcada Vol. 2
Þetta námskeið er sjálfstætt framhald af Volcada-námskeiðinu í nóvember og er kostur að hafa tekið það, en ekki skilyrði. This workshop is a standalone continuation of the Volcada class held in November. Having taken that class is an advantage, but it is not required.
Volcada – Út úr jafnvægi
Volgada, er mjög spennandi og falleg hreyfing í tango. Leader leiðir follower út úr jafnvægi og saman skapa þau flæðandi hreyfingu byggða á trausti og samhæfingu. Á þessu námskeiði leggjum við áherslu á volcada í þéttri dansstöðu sem hentar vel í social dansi, bæði sem línulaga hreyfing og flæðandi hringhreyfing. Við förum djúpt í grunnatriði tækninnar, kennum hvernig hægt er að leiða og fylgja hreyfingunni á öruggan og auðveldan hátt, og hvernig hún flæðir náttúrulega inn í dansinn. Við gerum nokkrar skrefa samsetningar með Volgada.
Volcada – Out of axes
Volgada is an exciting and beautiful movement in tango. The leader leads the follower out of balance, and together they create a flowing movement based on trust and connection. In this workshop, we focus on volcada in close embrace, suitable for social dancing, both as linear movements and as flowing circular movements. We go deep into the fundamentals of the technique, teaching how to lead and follow the movement in a safe and effortless way, and how it can flow naturally within the dance. We will practice a few step combinations including volcada.
19. apríl kl. 16.00-17.30 – Workshop 3 – Musicality with Anibal Troilo
Að tengjast tónlistinni – Tónlistartúlkun með Anibal Troilo
Tónlist Aníbal Troilo (1914–1975) er bæði heillandi og krefjandi fyrir tangódansara. Hún einkennist af sterkum andstæðum, einstakri mýkt, breytilegum hraða og skýrum tempó breytingum. Tónlistin sem er rytmísk en jafnframt mjúk og flæðandi, skiptist í kafla sem hver um sig hefur sitt eigið yfirbragð. Þrátt fyrir andstæðurnar er uppbygging tónlistarinnar skýr og auðveld að fylgja og gefur góða innsýn í byggingu allrar klassískrar tangótónlistar.
Á námskeiðinu skoðum við uppbyggingu örfárra laga frá 1943, þegar gullöld tangósins stóð sem hæst. Við hlustum á einstaka kafla og vinnum með hvernig hreyfingar, hraði og orka geta fylgt tónlistinni. Þegar dansinn og tónlistin renna saman í eitt, verður upplifunin töfrandi.
Connecting with the Music – Musicality with Aníbal Troilo
The music of Aníbal Troilo (1914–1975) is both captivating and challenging for tango dancers. It is characterized by strong contrasts, unique softness, variable tempos, and clear tempo changes. The music is rhythmic yet smooth and flowing, and is divided into sections, each with its own character. Despite these contrasts, the structure of the music is clear and easy to follow, offering valuable insight into the structure of all classic tango music.
In this workshop, we explore the structure of a few pieces from 1943, when the Golden Age of tango was at its peak. We listen to individual sections and work with how movement, speed, and energy can follow the music. When the dance and the music merge into one, the experience becomes truly magical.

Á advanced stigi leggjum við áherslu á gæði dansins og förum dýpra í grunninn að því markmiði að ná betra flæði og fjölbreytni í dansinum. Gert er ráð fyrir að þátttakerndur hafi góðan grunn og þekki mörg helstu koregrafísku elementin í tangó. Við vinnum með nákvæmni, tækni, breytingar á dynamík og tónlistartúlkun er einnig mikilvægur þáttur í kennslunni. Vals og/eða milonga er á dagskránni á hverju tímabili.

Advanced level lessons, January – April 2026
Taught in Danshöllin Mjódd on Tuesdays at 20.00-21.30
3. period: April 28th – June 9th (7 weeks)
At the advanced level, we emphasize the quality of the dance and go deeper into the basics with the goal of gaining greater precision, better technique, more beautiful style, and variety in the dance. Musical interpretation is an important part of the teaching at this level. We work with changes in dynamics and various choreographic elements and diverse step combinations. Waltz and/or milonga are on the program each season.
